Typeless vs Wispr Flow

Typeless and Wispr Flow do the same job: you speak, clean text appears. They split on the two things that decide which one you install. Wispr Flow caps its free plan at 2,000 words a week on desktop, a limit read on its pricing page on 24 October 2026.
Start with the free plan, then the price
Wispr Flow supports over a hundred languages and operates across any application on your computer without extra setup. Typeless provides broader compatibility, running on Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. The key difference lies in the free tier limits and the subscription costs. We have run the Wispr Flow app on client accounts since 2024, and the free plan is where every comparison on this page starts.
Check what each one costs, billed annually
Read both pricing pages and the gap is small on the annual rate and large on the monthly one. Wispr Flow's Pro plan shows 15 dollars per user per month on the monthly cycle, and 12 dollars per user per month when billed annually, read on wisprflow.ai/pricing on 24 October 2026. Its Growth plan sits at 23 dollars monthly or 18 dollars annually, and the Free tier is 0. There are no commitments and you can cancel anytime. Typeless Pro shows 12 dollars per member per month, billed yearly, or 30 dollars when billed monthly, read on typeless.com/pricing on the same day. Our Wispr Flow pricing page breaks down every tier in more detail.
Compare the free plans before you pay
This is where the two pages stop resembling each other. Wispr Flow publishes its limit: a word cap of 2,000 per week on desktop, on the Free plan, read on its pricing page on 24 October 2026. The same page says the free tier includes dictation with generous weekly usage, works on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, and never needs a credit card to start.
Typeless's pricing page takes a different approach. It says a new account starts on the Typeless Free plan with limited words each week, standard accuracy, and standard access during high demand. What that means in practice is that you find out your weekly allowance by using the app, not by reading the page. You can cancel a Pro subscription under Subscription on the Account page in the app.
There is a third door if neither free plan suits: OpenTypeless, a free and open-source desktop voice input under an MIT licence, read on opentypeless.com on 24 October 2026. Its Pro plan costs 4.99 dollars a month and carries 100,000 cloud words a month for voice and AI. A one-time lifetime purchase at 89.99 dollars keeps those Pro-level monthly cloud words without another subscription. It speaks in 99 supported languages through a global hotkey.
Write a messy paragraph and see what comes back
Price tells you what you pay; the transcription tells you whether you keep typing by hand. On this point the evidence we hold is one-sided, and it is worth being precise about which side. Our Wispr Flow account shows 1,145,134 words dictated in total, at an average of 113 words per minute, across 144 applications, captured from the Flow Highlights dashboard on 25 September 2026. The dashboard counter displays those three figures directly. Against the Aalto University study, which measured an average typing speed of 52 words per minute, dictation runs 2.17 times faster and saves about 198 hours over that volume of words.
The 52 words per minute is a population average, not the speed of any particular writer. And the 27-day streak is a running series, not the period over which the million words were dictated, so the two figures belong to different spans of time. On the other side of the comparison, Typeless's product page says the tool automatically detects and removes unnecessary and repeated words in your speech, and instantly translates your speech into a chosen language with local phrasing. Those are the features its page offers for messy input.
Pick by where you write most
If your writing happens across many applications and several languages a day, the measured case favours Wispr Flow: 144 distinct applications on one account is the strongest signal we have that a dictation tool follows your whole workflow rather than living in one editor. It also handles language switching inside the Flow bar, one click away. The cases where it does not fit are on its own record: rooms where talking out loud is not an option, and writing that is mostly code and symbols, where the fix is to dictate the prose and keep the symbols on the keyboard.
Typeless earns the pick on two other grounds. It runs on Linux, which the Wispr Flow pages do not list among their platforms, they name Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. And it carries ISO 27001 certification with GDPR and HIPAA compliance, with history encrypted and accessible only to you. If you write in a regulated environment, that certification line is a fact worth weighing against everything else on this page. For a deeper look at how dictation compares with the assistant built into your machine, our Wispr Flow vs Siri piece covers the paragraph-versus-command split.
| Tool | Free plan | Price, billed annually | Where it wins |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typeless | Limited words each week, standard accuracy | 12 dollars per member per month, billed yearly | Linux support, ISO 27001 and HIPAA |
| OpenTypeless | Free forever, open-source MIT licence | Pro at 4.99 dollars per month, 100,000 cloud words | Lifetime option at 89.99 dollars, no subscription |
Before you cancel anything
Both tools let you stop: Wispr Flow has no commitments and you can cancel anytime, and Typeless puts cancellation under Subscription on the Account page. Start on the free tier of whichever one matches your platform, dictate a real week of work, and let the word counter settle the argument for you.
