Spokenly and Wispr Flow both turn speech into paragraphs in any app. Wispr Flow's Pro plan costs 15 dollars per user per month, or 12 dollars per month when billed annually (144 dollars a year), and its free plan is capped at 2,000 words a week on desktop. Spokenly's Pro runs 8.33 dollars a month, billed 99.99 dollars a year, and its Local+ tier is a one-off 29 dollars. If you dictate under 2,000 words a week, both cost you nothing.
Price both plans against your weekly word count
Wispr Flow's pricing page, read on 25 October 2026, shows two billing columns, Monthly and Annual, and three tiers. Free sits at 0 dollars. Pro is 15 dollars per user per month on the monthly column and 12 dollars per user per month on the annual one, which puts the year at 144 dollars. Growth moves from 23 to 18 dollars the same way. The one hard number on the free tier: word limit, 2,000 per week on desktop. Past that, Flow Pro removes the limits.
Spokenly's pricing page, read the same day, splits differently. Free is 0 dollars forever, and the page says dictation is free forever in every plan. Local+ is 29 dollars once, a shape Wispr Flow's tiers don't offer: you pay and it stays yours. Pro is 8.33 dollars per month, billed 99.99 dollars per year, with a 14-day refund. A team plan buys several seats in one subscription with a permanent 30 percent discount, and verified students get 50 percent off Pro.
So the comparison is a subscription against a subscription plus a lifetime option. If you know your weekly volume, the free caps tell you when either bill starts. We keep the full tier breakdown for the Wispr Flow pricing breakdown; here the question is which of the two to install.
| Wispr Flow | Spokenly | |
|---|---|---|
| Pro, billed annually | 12 dollars per user per month (144 a year) | 8.33 dollars per month (99.99 a year) |
| Local+ licence | not offered | 29 dollars once |
| Free plan | 0 dollars, capped at 2,000 words a week on desktop | 0 dollars forever, dictation free in every plan |
Dictate a real paragraph in each, not a demo sentence
Every dictation app handles "hello world". The test that matters is a paragraph dictated in one go, with client names, mixed languages and dictated punctuation, into whatever app you actually work in. That is what the Wispr Flow platform has been doing on our production accounts since 2024, and the dashboard gives us numbers no demo sentence will.
The usage profile shows an average speed of 113 words per minute, the use of 144 distinct applications, and a streak of 27 consecutive days.
Against typing, the comparison runs through the largest published typing study, Aalto University at CHI 2018, which puts the average at 52 words per minute. At 113 words per minute dictated against 52 typed, the same million words takes 169 hours by voice against 367 by keyboard, a gap of 198 hours. The Pro seat costs 144 dollars a year billed annually.
Limits to that arithmetic, and we would rather state them than let a comparison table do it quietly. The 113 words per minute is dictation speed, not finished-text speed; the counter does not measure proofreading or corrections, so the real gain sits below 198 hours. The 52 words per minute is a population average, so a faster typist sees a smaller gap. And the 27-day streak is an ongoing series, not the period the million words were dictated over; dividing one by the other would produce a daily figure that is simply false.
Choose Spokenly when you want to pay once and keep your audio on the device
One is Linux: Spokenly runs on macOS, Windows, iOS and Linux. The other is Local+, 29 dollars paid once, which pairs with a local-only mode that blocks every network request, so with on-device models your voice never leaves your Mac. Its cloud models also work on a bring-your-own-keys basis, so for cloud dictation and AI you supply your own API keys.
On the dictation side, both handle the same brief: Spokenly dictates in any of 100-plus languages, or mixes two mid-sentence, and detects the language as you go. Wispr Flow covers 100-plus languages too, with auto-detection and a language picker in the Flow bar. The real fork is the billing shape and the privacy posture. If you hate subscriptions, a 29-dollar licence you own beats a 99.99-dollar annual bill. If you dictate from a shared or sensitive machine, local-only mode is a line the other page simply does not have.
If you want to go further down the local route, we have a separate piece on a Superwhisper alternative that stays free and on-device; it is a different trade-off and it has its own article rather than a paragraph here.
Set Wispr Flow up so the free tier carries the light users
The mistake teams make with Wispr Flow is buying a seat for everyone on day one. The free tier is for individuals, and team management only starts on Pro, so the setup that works is to start the whole team on the free tier and move only the heavy writers to Pro at 12 dollars per user per month billed annually. The free tier is not a trial, so the people who dictate twice a week never need a seat at all.
For whom is the paid seat worth it, then? For someone whose week looks like Louis's dashboard: long prose spread across dozens of different applications, the 144-app profile where a dictation feature trapped in one text field stops working. Wispr Flow Pro costs 144 dollars a year billed annually. That breadth of use is where the seat earns its keep. Coders should dictate the prose and type the code, because symbols belong on the keyboard. The full picture of tiers, limits and the education discount lives on the Wispr Flow's full capabilities listing.
Pick by your weekly word count and your stance on subscriptions
Under 2,000 words a week on desktop, install either and pay neither. Check details on Wispr Flow against your own counter for a week before deciding; the free plan will tell you.

What people still ask
Is Spokenly cheaper than Wispr Flow?
But Spokenly's Local+ tier is a one-off 29 dollars, which changes the maths after a couple of years, and Wispr Flow's free plan and Spokenly's free plan both cost nothing, so the bill only starts once you outgrow the free word cap.
Can I use both without paying anything?
Yes, on both sides. Wispr Flow's free plan runs on desktop with a cap of 2,000 words a week. Spokenly's Free tier is 0 dollars forever, and dictation stays free in every plan, including the paid ones.
