Screen and video recording

Three different jobs hide in this category, and buying the wrong one for the wrong job is the usual mistake. The first is the thirty second answer to a colleague or a client: capture the screen, draw an arrow, send a link. That is a native capture tool, it costs tens of dollars once, and the reason it matters is that showing something in one keystroke replaces a meeting. The second is the published video you record alone: a demo, a walkthrough, an explanation. What decides whether these get made is not the recording but the editing afterwards, so the tools worth having are the ones where layouts, zooms and filler removal are applied while you record and the export is the deliverable. The third is a conversation with someone else, and there the only thing that matters is local recording: each side captured on their own machine at full quality, uploaded in the background, so a bad connection never becomes a bad file. You get one shot at an interview, and the degradation is invisible while it is happening. Expect ten to twenty dollars a user per month across all three, which makes owning two of them an easy decision and owning only one an expensive false economy.
