Every list you will find for this query names the same fifteen applications, written by people who installed each one for an afternoon. We checked the first page of results for this query on 25 September 2026: the same recurring names filled most of them, none written from a production account. We have taken a narrower cut. These are the Mac apps still running on our accounts after a year, sorted by what they return in time rather than by how long their feature pages are.

Because a productivity stack fails by weight. Every extra app is a menu bar item and a subscription to forget about, plus a shortcut to memorise. The account does not run a task manager, a note app or a window manager, and nothing has gone missing.

Dictate instead of typing, and measure what the minute saved is worth

Built-in dictation in a word processor serves one place. None of the public comparisons we consulted on 25 September 2026 publish that number.

You work in a room where talking out loud is not an option; there is no fixing that. Or your writing is mostly code and symbols; dictate the prose and type the code, and the symbols stay on the keyboard where they belong.

Record the screen once, and stop scheduling the meeting

CleanShot X and Tella sit on the same shelf and do different jobs. CleanShot is the disposable capture: the screenshot with the annotation you send in a Slack thread and never look at again. It earns its place by how little it asks. Press the shortcut, drag, and the file lands where you expect.

Tella is the one you keep. The recording stays watchable at whatever speed the recipient prefers. We reach for it whenever a client question starts with "can you show me". The answer gets recorded once and sent as a link.

We have not measured hours saved on either, so we will not invent a figure. What we can say is that both have stayed installed through the same year, on accounts where tool churn is constant. Neither appears in the SERP lists we checked, which tells you how those lists get written.

Fill lists without retyping them, and keep the credits in dollars

Paste is the cheapest line on this page and the easiest to justify. Its pricing page, read on 27 September 2026, shows $2.49 per month, or $29.99 billed annually, and no credit card required if you download it from their website. Students and educators get 30% off their first year of an annual plan. A family plan covers up to six people through Family Sharing, billed annually and exclusive to the App Store.

What it does is hold your clipboard history so the link you copied on Tuesday is still there when the client asks for it. What we can say is that the trial is long enough to know whether your workflow misses it.

Read the editor's price page before you trust any list, including ours

Every price in this article carries the date we read it on the editor's own page, because pricing pages change and aggregators do not. When we checked the first page of results for Wispr Flow pricing on 25 September 2026, at least six pages of the "Pricing 2026" type appeared, several written by competing dictation tools including spokenly.app, lumevoice.com and getvoibe.com. A comparison written by a competitor of the tool being compared is exactly what this site exists to correct.

One more trap: pricing pages show annual billing by default. We copy the billing lines next to the price lines for that reason. If a list gives you a number without a date and a source page, treat it as decoration.
